I found no videos or images that showed me where this was when I was looking for how to replace this, so I am uploading this to help future people who is als.. The crank sensor is a hall effect transducer mounted low down on the back of the engine. All it does is count the number of times the crank shaft goes round (by sending a signal to the ECU). As regards the engine being out by 180 degrees well it doesn't actually matter in this case.

My 156 TS manual has developed a bit of a funky behaviour of late. It had an uneven idle and had started to drop revs and stall when coming to a stop or turning a corner at low speed (like pulling into my driveway). If I blip the throttle as I come to a stop then it keeps its head and will just idle as expected when I come to a stop.
